Panama's Re-Forestation Visa

E-mail Print PDF

This article was written by Offshore Panama, a legal firm in Panama City.  Always consult your own lawyer regarding visas. I cannot answer questions about immigration visas - as I am not a lawyer. However, I will point out, 20 years is a long time. Fluctuating wood prices, insects and diseases are just some of the variables in investing in agriculture, but it is one of the most popular of the thirteen ways to get a residency visa in Panama. The government has taken over the pubic transportation sector in Panama and is buying these old U.S. school Buses from the private operators and replacing them with modern air conditioned buses. Problem is the art of these privately owned moving art galleries are to be scrapped and the art will be gone forever.

I became confused when I heard the word "Service" used with these agencies:

Internal Revenue 'Service '
Telephone 'Service '
Cable TV 'Service '

Who We Are

T. Rob Brown (aka Roberto Chocolate)Buenos dias! I am T. Rob Brown (aka Señor Roberto Chocolate). I am what some might call “the new retiree”, or “early retiree”. I was born in 1956, smack dab in the middle of the baby boomers. I am the youngest of seven children, so I am doubly spoiled. I was a bachelor for over forty years before marrying Yolanda Van Der Kolk in 1999, after living together for seven years. (You don’t want to rush into these things after all).

We have two dogs; Berkley, a 13 years old black lab mix, and Lucky-Lucky, a 2-year-old Golden Doodle (see the home page of her breeder – www.doodlelane.com - Lucky-Lucky is the poster puppy standing in the dandelions). Yolanda was a photographer for twenty-one years before deciding to return to her roots and begin painting again. She had attended the Ontario College of Art and Ryerson University. (see www.yolandavanderkolk.com for her bio and to view her work).

In 1982, I founded Artsmarketing Services Inc. (AMS) one of the largest marketing and fundraising firms in North America. AMS works with non-profit organizations helping them market season subscriptions and/or raise funds. Our clients include The Cleveland Orchestra, The National Arts Center, The Royal Ontario Museum, The Art Gallery of Ontario, The San Francisco Ballet, Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Seattle Children’s Hospital to name a few. We are excited to have recently signed our first Australian client, The Sydney Symphony. (visit our website at www.artsmarketing.com).

In 2000, I was named a Volunteer of the Year by the City of Toronto and presented the award by Mayor Mel Lastman. In that same year I stepped down from the day-to-day operations of AMS and we moved full-time to our summer home in Prince Edward County. Together Yolanda and I launched a charter boat business, opened a two hundred and fifty seat waterfront restaurant and I was elected President of the local Chamber of Commerce, We decided retirement was harder than working! Neither of us were doing what we had hoped to do in retirement; I had wanted to write, Yolanda wanted to paint. So we closed all of our businesses and I stepped down from the Chamber to pursue those dreams.

I am now writing the pilot for a television series on retirement, and Yolanda is painting. One of our dreams was to not spend winters in Canada, so we set out to find the perfect winter/retirement home. At the time, there really were no resources dedicated to helping you find your ideal retirement destination.

Stay Healthy My Friends!

Honest, Unbiased Information

Retirement Detectives is solely owned and operated by T. Rob Brown (aka Señor Roberto Chocolate). It's purpose is to report on existing and emerging retirement destinations around the globe in an authoritative, unbiased way. Unlike many sites that pretend to be independent but are really marketing property, we are not a front for a real estate developer, property speculator or condominium owner.

We are not involved in real estate, offshore investments, tourism promotion or any other services other than the provision of honest, impartial information for retirees. Many of the so-called “retirement living” or “offshore retirement” websites and newsletters are nothing more than fronts for real estate pitches. Their “Ten Best” or “Worlds Best” retirement destinations just happen to be wherever they have condos for sale at the time. Even the offshore investment newsletters I subscribed to sound more like hard-core carnival barkers than true investment or real estate advisers. They themselves own many of the investments they are hawking. I feel this is a conflict of interest.

Now don’t get me wrong. There is absolutely nothing wrong with real estate websites. After all, that is how we find out what’s available in the locations we are interested in. I have used a number of real estate agents to buy my own properties and feel that a good agent earns every dime of their commissions. It is the deviousness of providing investment information when it is really nothing more than a self-interested real estate pitch that I resent.

Twelve years ago, when my wife and I started looking for a winter home we used travel books, recommendations from friends, and our own travel experiences to research the areas we were interested in. At that time there were no websites dedicated to retirement destinations. As for friend’s recommendations, while they were heart-felt, we found that what they saw in a week-long, sometimes rum-soaked vacation bore little resemblance to what it was like to live on the other side of the resort fence. Local life was a very different world beyond the manicured lawns and twenty-four hour security of the five star resorts. The single best source of information is our own eyes. We were shocked at the differences we saw when we finally showed up at some idyllic destination only to be repulsed by the stench of rotting garbage or the deplorable conditions of the roads, sewers or beaches. My wife was a photographer for twenty-one years – I have seen what she can do in photo shop to fix flaws in photographs. Dark, dirty water becomes aqua green. Glass-strewn, garbage-ridden stretches of beach became pristine white-powder sands. So if you are looking for the real scoop on existing or emerging retirement destinations without the hype, and high pressure sales pitch you've come to the right place.
