Where should I stay in Panama City?

E-mail Print PDF

This request came from friends of freinds from Ontario. Roberto

Hi Rob and Yolanda
Trent and I are friends of Bruce and Melody from Demorestville. I met you a couple of times in Prince Edward County and hoping to see you on our vacation in Panama at their hacienda. They directed us to your website in hopes we could get some info on where to stay for our last 2 nights in Panama.

We would like of course to be close to restaurants and areas of interest. Melody had suggested the Casco Viejo area. Are you able to offer some suggestions? Unfortunately we are some ways from retirement so a week is all we get.....lol.
Our dates staying in a hotel will be the 12th and 13th of February. Any advice you can offer is fabulous.

Have a fabulous day!!

Kind regards,

Maggie & Trent

Dear Maggie and Trent,

Casco Viejo is terrific. Very historic - there is the golden altar, the flat arch, the Canal Museum (worth going to) the National Theatre, the Presidential Palace, etc.

My very favorite hotel in all of Panama is in Casco Viejo - Las Clementinas (for rates/reservations e-mail Nilena Lopez: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). A bit pricier - but worth it - only 6 suites, garden dining room, great bar, rooftop jazz with views of the city. Each room is a suite, and have small tables on the wrap-around balconies - all the furniture came from the old British Embassy - gorgeous - staff are the best I have encountered.

The City - Hotel RIU on Callé 50 (main drag) has specials from time to time - big, new, great pool, centrally located.

El Panama is an older Royal York kind of place - right in the party district - (all the best clubs are located nearby on Calle Uruguay) but for a great deal, we usually stay at Seville Suites ($90 -$120 a night includes breakfast, kitchenette, small pool). The hotel is very clean and centrally located. www.sevillasuites.com

Right across the street from Seville Suites is Restaurant 1985. Next door is The Isthmus Brew Pub, and just down the street is The Wine Bar - all great places.

It is just down the street from the huge Veneto Casino (worth going there just to see the very elegant prostitutes - prostitution and gambling are legal in Panama - unusual for such a Catholic country) LOL.

The Seville Suites and El Panama are both within walking distance of Via Espana = shopping.

Two days is only a tease - enjoy. I hope this helps.
Roberto
