History, anthropology, botany - and hugging monkeys!
Here are two exciting places you may want to visit. One is called The Alouatta Lodge - it is a monkey sanctuary and plant nursery out near Boca Chica.
A couple (from Europe) have propagated over 8,000 exotic plants on 40 acres of property on the mountainside.
Somewhere along the line, someone brought them a wounded howler monkey.
They nursed it to health, and have since taken in a number of injured and abandoned monkeys.
It is now a howler monkey sanctuary.
The howler monkeys are really cuddly and come right up to you and love to hug - she is kind of the Jane Goodall of Panama. (See the u-tube videos below)
Cost is only $10 per person plus $10 for lunch.
An optional Noble Bugle Indian village tour/coffee plantation tour is available as well.
Call ahead for directions and lunch.

We had a great time playing with the monkeys at Alouatta Lodge.
The other interesting site:
National Geographic has discovered a new ancient civilization in Panama - not Inca or Myan - it is
considered one of the most exciting geological and anthological discoveries of the century.
There is also a ring of rock columns (Panama''s miniature Stonehenge) at the site as well.
So far, twenty-some buried bodies unearthed so far, a gold breast-plate and armbands, tools, etc.
Very exciting. Pick up a copy of the new National Geographic magazine - it has a gold pre- Colombian figure
on the cover.
Located in La Cana, which is 15 km west of Penonomé in Coclé Province.
