A question came in from a reader (Debra) asking about using taxicabs, walking or renting a car in Panama City. I sent the question to our expert, Nasira. (she runs the back office of nine used-car dealerships)

Secret Cinema in Casco Viejo

E-mail Print PDF

Want something really special to do tonight in Panama City?

An insiders tip: take in a flick at Cinema Paraiso. Wine, beer, great food -  and a movie. This quaint little shop has it all - movie rentals, popcorn and a film projected on the walls - either in English or Spanish with subtiltes - every night.

In front of Reprosa in Casco Viejo. 228 - 8619

Happy Birthday Monique

E-mail Print PDF

Special wishes to a true Canadian pioneer in Panama.

It is because of Monique Woods that Roberto and I find ourselves living in Panama. We both fell in love with her energy, her bar and the expats dream.

Through her eyes, Panama truly is the modern day ‘Wild Wild West’ – where anything is possible.

The movie line “If you build it they will come” was never truer than with Monique.

Panama’s Entrepôt Economy in Evolution

BRAVO Council meeting focuses on the future of the most recent Latin American country to achieve an investment grade rating

Brisk tourism, a steady flow of capital and a prized upgrade for its sovereign debt have brought such good economic news for Panama that participants in a recent economic forum could almost overlook the role of the country’s economic engine – the Panama Canal.

Changes in the way Canadians bring pets to Panama

E-mail Print PDF

This came in from a reader in Toronto who is bringing his cat to Panama. Note the change: First have your vet certificate notarized, then authenticate the notary's signature at the Official Document Services - and then take it to the Panamanian Consulate or Embassy to be stamped.

Rob,

For your information, the Panamanian Embassy will only accept the Health and Vaccination Certificates after they are notarized by a lawyer and subsequently filed with the Official Document Services, In Toronto 416-325-8416, at $16.00 per document. H.

Panama's inflation rate holding steady at 4.2%

E-mail Print PDF

Panama's inflation rate held steady at 4.2% through September, with the consumer price index (CPI) showing no change.

Economic activity rose by 6.24% in July, driven by telecommunications, tourism and the expansion of the Panama Canal.

Panama usually enjoys a very low inflation rate, and its economy has been one of the strongest performers in the region for years (typically in the low double digits)

Government officials predict Panama's economy will grow by 7% in 2011.

Film School a priority for PANIFF

E-mail Print PDF

Entrepreneurs in Education

In addition to the economic benefits, the international media attention, the increased tourism and the potential to market Panama as a film location - one of the most important benefits the Panama International Film Festival (www.paniff.com) can create is to foster education. "Helping to create film classes, courses and indeed an entire school is one of the priorities of PANIFF" says Rob Brown, CEO of PANIFF.

The following is an excellent article from AS/COA ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) on the state of education in Latin America, and how entrepreneurs can make significant impact on the quality of education in those countries.

piece of seaweed touches my foot.
