Canadian beer in Panama?

E-mail Print PDF

This came in from a Canadian living in Washington, DC. Roberto

Are Canadian beers available in Panama? Ron

My response: As I have always said, Panama is pretty good, but it is not perfect. Alas, no.

Once in a blue moon Captain Jim's Pizza offers a bottle or two of Labatts Blue that some kind guest has brought down, but on average you must make do with really good Balboa, Atlas or Panama beer - forty-nine cents in a grocery store - between 70 cents and $1.50 in bars.

Cremation in Panama

E-mail Print PDF

A question about cremation and sending ashes back to Canada. Roberto

On another note: It is probably legal to get cremated in Panama, but is it legal for a Canadian citizen to have this done and then get the ashes sent back to Canada?

Justine

Quick answer: yes and yes - there are no problems, and cremation is much less expensive in Panama than in Canada.

Roberto, Is the drive from Panama City out to Santa Clara (the interior) an easy drive?  I hear so much about Panama drivers.  Thanks, Gretchen

Questions about living in Panama

E-mail Print PDF

This series of questions just came in on the site - i will answer as best as I can. Roberto

Hi Roberto,

I guess you consider Santa Clara the place to live in Panama. I have read
about every place but this area so I guess it may be the one place to live.
I was looking at the prices of some of the developments & they seem high for
Panama. From the look of your photos I gather you are in the country.
I have a few more questions if you don't mind.

How much land do you have & Do you have close neighbors?
Are the health insurance & hospitals as good as described.
Do you need Air Con & heating.
Once you own your home can you live comfortably on $2000 USD a month,
Really? I'm not talking canned beans but nice living with all the everyday
frills. Going out, internet, pool etc.

Look forward to hearing from you. Steve

Mosquitos and copper ion pool party in Panama

E-mail Print PDF

Two questions; one about mosquitos and the other about how the copper ion system worked during our pool party came in this morning. Roberto

Hi Roberto,

Thanks for the update. As to the mosquitos. I am bless with them not liking my blood but my wife gets enough of them for all of us. I was interested in general as to the amount of the buggers that are there. I mean being tropical, they are everywhere, but do you have to add coupious amounts of repellent to survive at night or are some areas better than others.Yours for example.

I am a fluids engineer for oil companies so I know what you mean about pH factors. This Ion Egg thing sounds too good to be true but now that I have an adventurer into it, I am interested to see how all the systems work out.

As always appreciate the info.
Good luck with the POOL GALA.
Steve

Where to stay in Panama City

E-mail Print PDF

$60/night in the heart of Panama City, breakfast included!

     http://www.vrbo.com/254085

This was sent in by a reader who has booked a week in September. I have not been inside this building, but it is in a great area, right next to the Marriott Hotel, and near one of my favorite restaurants in Panama - Beruit Restaurant (Lebanese food).

The Marriott is $300 a night - this place is $60 - and includes breakfast! 1 or 2 bedrooms available. The reviews were excellent - and the photos look good - (400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets).

I will report back after our reader stays there and gives her review. (Thanks Gretchen). Roberto

PS: Tell them Roberto Chocolaté sent you!
