It's beggining to feel a lot like Christmas...

It's that time of year once again, when Santa (Roberto Chocolaté last year - and his brother Dan this year) dons his trusty sleigh and visits the little children of Guzman, one of Panama's poorest villages.

Through the generosity of bar patrons in the Santa Clara area, over 400 wrapped presents and clean used clothing will be handed out to needy children this Chritsmas, and over 120 kids in Guzman - one of Panama's poorest villages, will have a very special Christmas dinner. The dinner is held the week before Christmas at the local school.

Santa hands out wrapped gifts to the wonderful children of Guzman.

Santa brings the presents. The clean clothes and food are organized by University of Panama students, with food donations from local restraurants.

This year Roberto's older brother Dan will take the reins and guide the sleigh 38 kilometers up into the mountains to visit Guzman - a town of 200 people north-west of Penonomé. Ths tiny village has no electricity, no running water, and over 95% unemployment - but lots of good cheer. "It makes Christmas wonderful for us" said Roberto. "We all look forward to it for months".

The whole village comes out to greet Santa and his elves.

On Christmas Eve, Santa will take to the streets in a two vehicle (double the number of floats from last year) Christmas in Coclé Santa Claus Parade, touring around the local villages. Over 100 poinds of candy will be tossed out by Santa and his elves, as Santa stops in at local restaurants to hand out presents to the excited kids. This lovely event is organized by Roberto and his family, and has already become a local tradition.

This year Roberto and Yolanda will share the joy with Henk and Yanka Van Der Kolk, Yolanda's parents who moved to Panama November 1st. Henk and Roberto are starting The International Film Festival of Panama together.
